Newsletter special: Auntie Andrea’s Homeschooling Curriculum + other resources for parents

In the past week, countless children’s jails have been shut down. These tiny inmates have been sent home to be with their parents all day, every day.

As you might imagine, the sanity of parents everywhere is in jeopardy.

As an auntie, there are no kids in my house. I keep my eight children elsewhere. Three at my brother’s house. Two at my sister-in-law’s house and three at the mother-of-my-goddaughter’s house. It’s a pretty good system, actually, but I’m not here to brag.

I’m here to help.

Which is why I’ve put together four resources for parents who are at home, trying to juggle children, work and toilet paper inventory. Please feel free to share with any parent on the brink of a children-induced nervous breakdown.

Parent resource #1: Auntie Andrea’s Homeschooling Curriculum

To help parents with children, 24-7, I created a 100% screen-based homeschooling curriculum for these trying times. It's designed to keep children quiet and staring blankly at the TV for hours, saving the sanity of countless parents. Use or modify however you like.

Breakfast & Homeroom

Looney Tunes (Look on YouTube for "LOONEY TUNES BIGGEST COMPILATION.” It makes homeroom last 4.5 hours.)

Math & Physics

Futurama: Together the writers have 50+ years at Harvard so you can trust these nerds to smarten up your kids.

History

The Lord of the Rings trilogy

Lunch

Jamie Oliver's 15-Minute Meals: This is experiential learning where the kids make their own lunch under Jamie's watchful eye.

Sex Ed

The Golden Girls

Music

Miley Cyrus’s Backyard Sessions on YouTube. Kids will think it’s cool because of Miley but they’ll learn about classics like Jolene, 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover (which doubles as sex ed class) and Happy Together. Plus, parents can drop in and see how the rock n roll lifestyle has somehow made Joan Jett ageless.

Gender Studies

Three's Company

Astronomy

Star Trek, the TV groundbreaking TV show or any of the movies.

Physical Education

Rotate through any or all Stallone, Schwarzenegger, The Rock, Statham or Wahlberg films so your kids learn muscles are essential for overthrowing bad guys & empires.

Parent resource #2: How to Work at Home with Kids During the Coronavirus Lockdown … Without Completely Losing Your Sanity

In this podcast, Ed Gandia interviews Carol J. Alexander, a freelance writer who’s been homeschooling her SIX kids for years. That probably doesn’t even involve five hours of TV per day.

If you don’t like listening to podcasts, don’t worry. Ed’s got you covered with detailed show notes.

You can find it all here: https://b2blauncher.com/episode210/

Parent resource #3: Leading Virtual Teams Successfully

This is for parents and non-parents who have teams to lead. In this hour-long video, Darren Hardy, author of The Compound Effect, talks about how to lead your team when everyone is remote, which he’s been doing for years. He covers specific tools his team uses to stay on track and talks about his project management, communication rhythms and work methodologies.

You can find Darren’s video here: https://darrenhardy.com/a-team-virtual-meetings

Parent resource #4: Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers playing Orange Blossom Special

This video is 10 minutes long and it may one day be classified as an antidepressant (unless you don’t like bluegrass). Nicky Sanders makes the fiddle sound like a train horn and it’s a joy to listen to. Lock yourself in the bathroom and peace out for one-sixth of an hour with Steve and the gang. The video is on YouTube here. If actual train horns are more your thing, check out “One of the most viewed train horn videos on YouTube!

Okay, that’s all for now.

I’m wishing you all the best during this period of social isolation/government tyranny. If there’s anything I can do to help (within reason), please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Until next time, keep on truckin’,

Andrea

PS: That train horn video is surprisingly relaxing. I’ve been listening to train horns for the last 15 minutes.
